Lead generation is one of the most important skill that every business needs to know because without leads, there would be no customers. Customers are the people who buy the products or services, which is how profit is made. When a business closes down, there is a good chance that they couldn’t generate leads on a regular basis.
Generating leads and traffic go hand in hand. The only way to generate leads is by having traffic. Constant online traffic to an offer can generate more leads for your business. Not all leads become paying customers, which is why it is so important to always be generating traffic to your lead magnets.
What is a lead magnet?
A lead magnet is a free offer that entices people to give their email addresses in exchange for the freebie. The freebie could be a video, a free training, a pdf, or a book. Freebies can be so many other things too. This lead magnet could be done through a landing page, a website pop up, or even just asking on social media for email addresses in exchanging for the freebie. The purpose of a lead magnet is to take people down into your funnel whether that is in the front end of your funnel or your backend funnel via your email marketing.
Lead magnets can be created with softwares like ClickFunnels or Thrive Themes. ClickFunnels is great if you don’t have a website and need an easy drag and drop funnel builder. If you already have a WordPress website, then Thrive Themes is also another great option. You would need to sync these to an email marketing software like ActiveCampaign.
Free traffic vs paid traffic for leads
There are two options for traffic to generate more leads online for your business. These two options are either free or paid traffic. Paid traffic is a lot quicker in acquiring leads, but it can also be costly. Free traffic can take a lot of time and requires plenty of content creation. Both sources can create passive leads. For paid traffic, you simply have to turn on an ad and it can drive traffic to your lead magnet and generate leads for you. For free traffic, your lead magnet has the ability to be found from a search if the right marketing techniques are done. Some paid traffic sources are Facebook Ads, Bing Ads, and Google Ads.
Free traffic for generating leads
There are several ways to get free traffic to your lead magnet. Some of these ways are evergreen, meaning that they are searchable and can be found for years to come. This technique is a great way to generate more leads online for your business.
Blogging
Blogging is an evergreen form of generating leads. A blog requires fresh content, but these contents are searchable through Google for years to come when done properly. Blogging takes a lot of time and effort. Not only can it generate leads passively, but it can also generate passive income when you have products to sell. Blogging has been around for years and will always be around. Google is the number one website that most people use to do searches and find answers to their problems. This makes this type of traffic hot as these users are searching for answers. When a lead magnet is in place on the blog, there is a high chance that the person will opt in. Effective lead magnets are usually ones that pop up when you land on a page and ones that capture within a blog post. Don’t have a blog yet? This tutorial blog post will teach you how to start a money-making blog.
YouTube
Like blogging, YouTube is another evergreen marketing strategy. When you create content for YouTube with the proper keywords and search engine optimization, the video can be found when searched on Google or YouTube itself. These videos could be found for years to come and can generate leads so long as the content is up and links to a lead magnet.
Pinterest is unlike the other social medias out there. In fact, it acts more like a search engine like Google. It is great for searching and finding things to pin to your boards making this platform another great source for lead generation. In order to have content on Pinterest, you’ll need to have a web presence that you can pin content from and this is usually through a blog. Pinterest is another source of evergreen lead generation. It is also the social media platform that generates the most amount of users with the intent to buy.
Message boards
Message boards and sites that answer questions come up often on Google. Such sites include Reddit and Quora. There have probably been instances where you searched something on Google and these two websites pop up on your search. Google finds these domains high value and will push it up in the searches. If you are answering people’s questions on these message boards, you have the ability to lead them to your lead magnet. This is another form of evergreen marketing as you’ve probably stumbled upon questions on your searches that were asked 10 years ago.
Social Media
Social media is what a lot of businesses focus their marketing efforts on. Social media is great for engaging, building a brand, and building a cult following. It’s called social media for a reason in that you always have to be social. Social media requires content to be pushed out quite often, as often as multiple times a day. If you haven’t created a blog because you think it’s too hard to write a blog post, try creating multiple contents for social media that aren’t even evergreen. Being a non-evergreen marketing strategy, once a post is posted on social media, it goes down the feed and will probably never resurface again. It’s also very hard to move someone off social media as the platforms don’t like to show content with links because they want you staying on their platform. However, social media is great for building authenticity. It’s also a quicker way to be found compared to blogging. It gives potential leads immediate access to you and your business.
Press
Nothing is quicker than press when it comes to traffic. If there is a press release or a published article about you or your business in a popular publication, it can catch like wildfire. An example of a popular publication that can generate a massive amount of traffic is by being published on Forbes. Being published can generate a lot of publicity around you or your business and people will want to know more about you. This means you will need to have a website or blog that collects these leads. The best way to collect them is through your lead magnet attached to your website.
As you can see, the way to generate more leads for your business is by building up your traffic sources. There are free and paid traffic sources. Paid traffic sources can come from platforms such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and Bing Ads. The great thing about paid traffic is that you have the ability to turn it on and make the lead generation passive as the advertising platform just shows it to an audience. The more you pay the advertising platform, the more leads you can receive as it is showing the content to more people. Free traffic sources don’t require as much money as paid traffic, although they do require a lot of time. This is done by creating content and distributing them amongst different channels such as blogging, YouTube, Pinterest, message boards, social media, and getting published in press.
Just sending people to your profile or website won’t generate leads though. A lead magnet is required in order to generate the leads from these traffic sources.
